Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI), Pirsabak, Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involves an integrated spectrum of cereal crops research ranging from basic and functional problems to applied research. The fundamental goal is to develop new generic genotypes of Wheat, Maize, Barley and Oats using physiological, genetic and primarily plant breeding methods. The institute succeeded in many fields of agriculture research regarding cereals over past six decades, including development of maize hybrids and development of wheat germplasm with improved milling and baking qualities, and contribution to research on the genotype × environment interaction, all aimed at satisfying the criteria of sustainable agriculture and for the benefit of farmers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI), Pirsabak, Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been serving the Province and ultimately Country in boosting Cereal Crops production primarily focusing on Wheat and Maize production since 1958. The institute focuses on the development of small grain cereal germplasm with improved quality and wide adaptability. The institute also has the privilege of developing maize hybrids in the Public Sector for the first time that are benefiting the poor farming communities of the Province. In addition to this, the institute staff plays an active part in graduate/post graduate research in scientific cooperation with Provincial/National Universities, the practical introduction of scientific results and technical knowledge.
